How to Choose a Small chicken coop

So what things should one consider before one spends your hard earned cash?

Below we take a look at what some of these things are when it comes to

buying a small chicken coop for your garden.

1. Give Your Chickens Plenty Of Room - If the coop is of a size that allows

plenty of movement for the hens then you will find that they perform better.

For a small coop where you may be keeping 4 or 5 hens only then you need a

coop that is around 10 to 15 sq ft in size. Ideally each bird you keep you

should around 2 to 3 sq ft of space each.

2. Does It Amply Protect Your Chickens - It is crucial that the coop is well

constructed to ensure that no predators can easily get in to it. As well as

ensuring that around the base of the coop is protected so do any access

points or ventilation holes need protecting. So make sure that all doors,

windows and holes allowing air to enter into the coop have a heavy gauge

wire mesh covering on them. Plus if you can ensure that the base of the coop

is placed on a concrete foundation as this will further help to prevent rats

and even foxes digging in underneath.
